I am now a fan of AudioEngine for life. Also some people have reviewed them and have said that it lacks bass, I did not notice this but I am also not a audiophile. Components like audioenvine transformers, magnets, and wiring harnesses that are not made in their factory are custom-made to their specifications. The latter is not really a problem, I just leave it turned all the way up and control it from the PC, but it would be nicer if it was on the audioengne and easily accessible.
A word of warning if you intend to use these with an iPod or other portable device, they hum quite noticeably when not connected audioengnie an audio source. My setup is a 15 Macbook Pro in a henge aluminum dock and I connect the speakers via the usb port on my desktop dell monitor – it all looks very clean, not wireless clean, but pretty darn nice.
I wanted a compact system that delivered great audio and I found it. Love the speakers anyway. They aren’t super bassy but they have good bass and they are perfect for my needs. These make audioengnie great baby bookshelf speakers or computer speakers in non-critical listening settings, they produce an impressive volume and bass for their size, indeed they’ve been tweaked a bit bass-heavy to the point of boominess. If you’re a bit of an audioenigne and can afford a subwoofer to pair with these, you’ll be well-pleased.
Clarity is excellent, no audible distortion at relaxed listening levels. Pretty well balanced computer speakers, but definitely not audiophile quality.
